2004 Little Penguin Chardonnay, Australia $8

This little penguin from Australia is making some waves in our pond, great flavors, affordable price, what a match for any wine lover. Fresh tropical fruits especially melon fill the nose once the wine hits the glass. These lead into flavors of pineapple, yellow apples, and clean crisp yellow fruit allow for a great chardonnay that is drinkable for any occasion.

With summer fast approaching it will soon be grill time at our house almost every evening. An herb marinated chicken breast right off the grill over a bed of mixed greens topped with a fruit vinargarette was a true winner with this wine. All the flavors from the smokiness of the herbs to the zing of the fruit dressing match with every element of this wine. Another great menu idea would be lime marinated grilled shrimp, the tanginess of the lime and subtle flavors of the shrimp will showcase the tropical flavors in the wine.

SouthCorp who also owns Penfold’s, Rosemount, and Lindemans started this winery to over delivery quality all the while keeping the price reasonable. They have a fun website that allows you to take a wine personality tests and offers hints on how to throw Penguin Parties. Have fun and enjoy.
