2006 La Crema Russian River Chardonnay, California $30

This Chardonnay taste like a great $100 bottle of wine, balanced perfectly with just the right amount of oak and fruit. With aromas of baked apple pie and vanilla bean let you know that the flavors are going to be warm and seductive. The flavors were layered on the tongue, with baked yellow apples, cream, touches of oak, and pears. These flavors married together and softly dissipated. The finish coated the mouth with vanilla beans flavors and lemon zest, allowing the acidity and fruit to balance into a remarkable tasting experience. This was a perfect bottle of Chardonnay from the first sip to the last drop.

This wine is a perfect match for bigger and bold meals and sauces, allowing allot of freedom in menu planning. We enjoyed our bottle with sautéed veal topped with an artichoke, pancetta, sage cream sauce. The smoky flavors of the pancetta drew out the oak notes, and the sage and cream balanced out the fruit and vanilla flavors. Some other menu ideas would be lobster either steamed or with a cream topping, baked chicken or even stuffed flounder.

This winery was founded in 1979 and has been a pioneer in Sonoma ever since. The winery is not open to the public but they have a tasting center located in Healdsburg, which is open 7 days a week. Jess Jackson, owner of Kendall-Jackson,  acquired this winery, and now is owned by Laura Jackson Giron and Jennifer Jackson, daughters of Jess. They have complete control, and make wines in a classic style, letting the fruit shine in each sip.

Cheers!
