2006 Ravenswood Vintners Chardonnay, California $11
This wine was a true knock out from the first sip, creamy, buttery, vanillia, very rich and expressive flavors filled the mouth. The nose was like coconut cream pie with hints of oak. On tongue and finish all these creamy flavors married perfectly with hits of pineapple and baked apple pie. A true winner for the price, with quality and flavors through the roof.
This wine will stand up to many different menu ideas, ranging from chicken to lobster. We enjoyed a bottle with a pan sauteed chicken breast topped with pancetta and cream suce. The creaminess of the dish along with the rustic smokey flavors of the meat allowed each flavor to surface and compliment the meal. Lobster either steamed or with a suce would also work well.
This winery has been making outstanding Zinfandels for many years and recently started a vinters blend program. They will source fruit and juice from different areas to make what they feel is an outstanding wine every vintage, and with this wine they hit the jackpot. In all of my tasting notes I have rearly came accross a bad wine from these folks.
