2006 Michael David 7 Deadly Zinfandel, California $20

This wine is a big lush fruit driven winner.  The nose starts out with layers of deep, spicy, berry aromas that glide into a lush treasure of a wine. Flavors of racy, leathery, jammy fruit fill the palate from the first sip. The finish is smoother than silk, soft and letting all the fruit resurface. This is a big chewy zinfandel without the heat you sometimes get from higher alcohol. There is a small ammount of Petit Verdot and Petit Sirah added to the Zinfandel to add backbone and extra complexity.

This wine worked well with one of my favorite meals, ribs. A love smoked and dry rubbed ribs that just get the taste buds kickin, and here in the south we have lots of great places to find them. The spice and fruit in the wine ran hand in hand with the flavors of the meat. Another great menu idea would be stuffed peppers, the green peppers and onion flavor balance out the jammy flavors in the bottle. When planning a menu keep in mind this wine will stand up and be noticed so no wimpy foods please.

The name of this wine came from two brothers who were looking to create a great blended Zinfandel that would be consistantly great. The finally decided on 7 different vineyard sites to make the wine from. Coming from a Catholic school background they decided on a play of words, instead of seven sins they named there wine seven deadly zins.
