2006 Redwood Creek Chardonnay, California $10
This wine was a real pleasant surprise for the price, loaded with excellent flavors and good complexity it is a real bargain. Aromas of yellow apples and tropical fruit filled the glass leading into a very soft layered drinking experience. The flavors were very expressive for a wine in this price category with creamy banana and pineapples notes balanced with the yellow apples and all framed with subtle hints of oak. The finish lingered nicely and allowed the oak to slowly dissipate off the taste buds. This was a great bottle of wine in the under ten dollar category, and also comes in the larger 1.5 liter format also.
With the weather turning a little warmer this past weekend we enjoyed this wine with a grilled chicken sandwich on the porch. The flavors in the bun complimented the oak notes and the fresh vegetables and herb flavors from the seasoning on the chicken allowed the tropical fruit notes and apple flavors to marry together into a great dinning experience, and yes a simple chicken sandwich with a good bottle of wine can be a terrific meal.

Redwood Creeks philosophy is great they try to give back to the environment and natural adventure causes. Some of the groups they support are; Yosemite Association, National Park Service, The Explorers Club, American Hiking Society, and American Rivers. To give back to the community the glass used to bottle the wine is between 30 to 80 percent recycled, the cardboard cases used to ship the wines contain at least 35 percent recycled materials. They are also making 187 ml single serve containers that are 100% recyclable.
