2006 Gallo Family Vineyards Sonoma Reserve Chardonnay, California $15
This wine has a great nose full of creamy baked apple aromas with light hints of oak. The flavors were perfect in this fifteen-dollar bottle. The mouth feel is nice with a crisp acidity balanced by ripe yellow pear and apple flavors. The finish lingers with subtle hints of lemon zest and spice nicely balanced with the oak notes. This wine is a very approachable, and offers classic Chardonnay flavors for a price that will not break the bank.
We went old school with this wine and had chicken potpie. With the weather a little colder we wanted something to warm up with and grabbed the bottle of chardonnay to enjoy. The balanced flavors of the wine will work with almost any menu pairing from seafood to pork. The creaminess of the pie and zip of the vegetables made it a perfect winner for the wine.
All of the grapes used to make this wine come from vineyards owned by the Gallo family in Sonoma. This company is still family owned which is quite a feat with so many small wineries being bought by corporate entities. Another great thing about this winery is their commitment to the environment. For every acre that is planted with vineyards they set aside another acre to be untouched as green space.
