2006 MacMurray Pinot Gris, California $20

If you are looking for a Pinot Gris loaded with flavor than this is your winner. Aromas of white peaches and anise peak your interest in this complex white. The flavors were elegant and rich, with layers of fruit and creaminess. Lemon Meringue flavors were intermingled with a slight complexity of spices. The finish was delightful with a slight creaminess and rich ripe fruit flavors holding on for the next sip. A great California twist on an old world classic.

With this wine having creaminess and great citrus flavors the menu choices are wide. We enjoyed our bottle with lemon pepper chicken. The spice on the chicken along with the baked lemon flavors allowed all the different elements of the wine to shine. It would even stand up to pasta with a light cream sauce or with fresh vegetables tossed in a citrus, butter, and olive oil sauce.

The property now known as Colonel George Porter, who returned to the Russian River Valley in 1846 as a hero of the Mexican wars, originally homesteaded MacMurray Ranch. Famed actor Fred MacMurray purchased MacMurray Ranch from the Porter family in 1941. Fred raised his family on the ranch and they enjoyed the natural wonders of Sonoma County.
